Akanksha Singh (Born on 7 September 1989 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh) is an Indian basketball player and captain of India Women's National Basketball Team. She is the member of national women team since 2004. Akanksha is very agile and one of the very skilled ball handlers of the country right now. She has stunned people by her charismatic skills and shooting. She has been awarded Best Player in many National and state Championships.
In 2010, Akanksha Singh was awarded the Most Valuable Player in India's first Professional Basketball league, MBPL 2010. Her name then, went on to be forever Cemented in the Indian Basketball History Books as one of the first ever Top Four Players to achieve the 'A' Grade from the Basketball Federation of India sponsored by IMG Reliance.
In 2003, Akanksha Singh made her debut in the Senior Nationals and played for the Uttar Pradesh team when she was just an 11th Grader. In 2004, Akanksha followed her sister's footsteps into the Delhi team. She had been playing with them a lot as a youngster, and this gave her another chance to play with them and develop a better understanding.
In her Captaincy University of Delhi won gold medal in All India University basketball Championship at Nallor, where she was given joint best player award along with her sister Pratima Singh. She belongs to Varanasi's Basketball Family Of India where four ( Pratima, Priyanka, Prashanti & Akanksha ) out of five sisters have played or playing for Indian national team.
Akanksha's experience of playing with her sisters has been no different - whether it has been in pick-up games in Varanasi, National tournament games for Delhi, or international games for India.
Expectations for success are high and patience for failure is far too low. With Divya and Prashanti making a name for themselves in the National and International circuit, there was a lot of pressure on Akanksha to follow in their footsteps, prove to the world that she can be in the same class that we have come to expect from the 'Singh Sisters'.
Akanksha has bigger dreams, for herself and for her country. "I want to be part of a team that finally wins a medal for India. We may not look formidable right now but I don't think such a feat is impossible. With the right kind of coaching, I think we can reach that summit." Akanksha Singh is married with business tycoon Nityn Bulchandani.
