Ashwini Ponnappa (Born On 18 September 1989, Bangalore, Karnataka) is an Indian right-handed badminton player, who represents the country at the international badminton circuit in both the women's and mixed doubles disciplines. Ashwini Ponnappa's Highest World Women's Doubles Ranking was 10 (20 August 2015) and Current Ranking is 26 (12 April 2018).
Ashwini had a successful partnership with Jwala Gutta as the pair have won many medals in international events including a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and a historic bronze at the World Championships. The pair consistently ranked among the top 20 in the BWF World Ranking reaching as high as no. 10. Ashwini and Jwala won the bronze medal at the BWF World Championships in 2011 becoming the first Indian pair and women and only the second overall to win a medal at the worlds.
Ashwini Ponnappa completed her schooling in Bangalore and she moved to Hyderabad for her Bachelor's Degree. In 2001, Ashwini Ponnappa won the Indian Sub-junior & Junior championships. She was Quarter Finalist of Chinese Taipei GP.
Ashwini won the gold medal at the South Asian Games held in 2006. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games, she won the gold medal in Women's Doubles event pairing with Jwala Gutta. She was also a member of Silver medal winning team of 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
At London Olympics 2012, pairing Jwala Gutta she lost her opening match in the women's double competition. She won her next doubles match against the Chinese.
In 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Ashwini won Silver medal in Women's Doubles event pairing with Jwala. Ashwini was also a member of bronze medal winning team of 2014 Asian Games was held in Incheon, South Korea and 2014 Thomas & Uber Cup. She won Bronze medal in Women's Doubles event in 2014 Gimcheon Asia Championships pair with Jwala. The pair has also been constantly ranked among the top 20 in the rankings.
