Geetika Jakhar (Born on 18 August 1985 in Hissar, Haryana) is an Indian wrestler who became the first woman wrestler to get the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2006. At a young age she has already won a number of national as well as international events. She Won two gold medals (2003, 2005) and a silver (2007) in Commonwealth Championships and a silver medal at Doha Asian Games in 2006.
Geetika was encouraged by her father to pursue the sport. Geetika was inspired to take up wrestling by her grandfather, Ch. Amar Chand Jakhar, an accomplished wrestler himself. She started wrestling at the tender age of 13, and was awarded the Bharat Kesari at the age of 15 by beating Sonika Kaliraman the then bharat kesari in a Dangal held at New Delhi in 2000. She won the Bharat Kesari title for a consecutive 9 years from then on. She is married to Mr.Kamaldeep Singh Rana, who is working in Haryana public work department as an Executive Engineer.
Geetika became the youngest wrestler to win a gold medal in all editions of the 2001 National Championships: Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior - an admirable record that has yet to be broken. By this she completed her GOLDEN QUARTET. Geetika is the only women wrestler in the history of Indian sports to be judged the Best Wrestler of the 2005 Commonwealth Games.
Geetika won the gold medal in the 67 kg category in the junior Asian championship in Kazakhstan in June 2009. She was given the title of Bharat Kesari and adjudged the best wrestler, besides being honoured with the prestigious Bhim Award by the Haryana Government. In 2008 Haryana government appointed her Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state Police.
Geetikae added another feather to her cap by winning the Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup tournament held in New Delhi from August 16 to 19, 2009. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit honoured Geetika with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh and a Gold cup.
Geetika a lone Indian women wrestler two times medallist of Asian Games 2006 and 2014 respectively. In 2013, she won Bronze Medal at Senior Asian Championship held in New Delhi, India. In 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games she won Silver Medal and also won Bronze Medal at the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea.
