Joshna Chinappa Most Promising Indian Squash Player


Joshna Chinappa (Born September 15, 1986 in Kodagu, Karnataka) is a professional squash player from India. She is a right handed player with great skills and potential. She reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 10 in July 2016. Joshna was the first Indian girl to win the British Squash Championship title in 2003 in the under 19 category, at Sheffield, U.K and was also the youngest Indian women's national champion. Joshna Chinappa is the first recipient of the 40 core Mittal Champions Trust.

At the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Joshna Chinappa along with Dipika Pallikal Karthik won the squash women's doubles gold medal, making it India's first ever Commonwealth Games medal in the sport. The pair won a Silver medal in 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Squash game runs in the blood of the young National Champion. Joshna Chinappen family has been playing the game the last four generations. Joshna great grandfather, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, who was also the first Commander in Chief of the Army of India, was a regular player of the game of squash. Joshna father, Anjan Chinappen, like his grandfather, also plays squash regularly and represented Tamil Nadu several times.

Joshna is very much famous locally and in international circuits. As she was very fond of playing squash, she started to play and practice at the age of 8 years. After spending some time as a junior player, Chinappa started to play professional squash back in 2003. At the age of 14 Joshna was crowned the Youngest Senior National Champion and by now she has several numbers of achievements under her credit.

Joshna Chinappa awarded the Arjuna Award in 2013. Chinappa trains at the Indian Squash Academy, Chennai. Her hobbies and interests includes music, painting. Joshna and Dipika are India's best and most talented female Squash players of all time, as they were both ranked in the top 10 in the world.
